I read this article written by Randall Hansen, Ph. D. about job searching in economic uncertainty and there was some real value here. It is not all that impossible to catapult or even promote your career, find a new employer or even start out your career; however, what is important is to stay focused, have a strategy and express the value an employer will gain by hiring you.
One of the most highly used resources is the internet- almost gone are the days of looking through the newspaper so why aren’t people networking more? The main reason, they are not quite sure how to go about doing this. It goes beyond telling people you know that you are job hunting, it has to do with building your network of professionals and using LinkedIn is one of the strongest methods widely available.
Finding hidden “treasures”- the job opportunity that isn’t broadcasted and do your due diligence, hunt out prospective companies by using your network and promote your skills.
Promote your resume and cover letter- if you haven’t updated it recently, now is the time. Make sure that it is highly-focused and quantifies your accomplishments.
Last but not least, follow up with the companies that you have inquired with and be persistent…and above all else, patient. I agree wholeheartedly with Randall! Thank you for sharing these valuable insights!
